…technology editorial in a blog-saturated industry.

theme7logoI have now finished my dissertation! (Some sort of) Freedom is mine! Exams to go yet, but it certainly frees up a lot of time… I have used a little bit of this to start designing the look-and-feel and content management system for one of the sites I want to make; this one is sort of a throw-away, I’ve had about 500 email responses about it so I want to get it up and let the community run it. www.theme7.net

It’s going to host Windows 7 integrated theme packs; a feature in Windows 7 that I really like!

It’s very early stages now, but over the coming days and weeks it should approach completion so… bookmark it!

Thanks a lot; I’ve got a lot of iPhone dev stuff going on as well, I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has experience in developping iPhone applications.

Speak soon,

Chris

I like to think that when I blurt rubbish out here, people listen! Often… it’s not really true, but over the past few weeks it actually has been!

How to find your UDID Article:  7000 hits

Windows 7 Code Branching :  4000 hits

Access iPhone 3.0 Beta: 10,000 hits

Obviously… I’ve rounded those figures off!!

Thanks guys… hope it’s useful!! I have a couple new projects that I’ll be linking off to / blogging about in the coming months once my dissertation is in!! I look forward to chatting with you all about it!

dell22I have just accepted receipt of a second DELL moniter.

I suppose I’ve been living in the past for the last year with only one moniter on my desk but now, having two… I can see why people say that two is the way forward. The only problem is I don’t know how I’m going to go about not buying a third!

It’s so much easier to do two things at once; the ability to watch an episode of a TV show, or chat on IM while working on the other screen is invaluable (saves switching) and if you’re copying data from program-to-program etc… it speeds things up no end!

In synopsis; if there’s currently one moniter on your desk; get to dell.com and buy another while I take a picture to update the blog header! :)

Someone today said to me…

“…a Zillion is 1 followed by a Katrillion zeros…”

I thought that was funny!

On an unrelated note, I got my iPhone today :). Oh god is it good… loads more soon, check out my twitter and flickr for more regular posts… more iPhone-native :)

DELL have a sale on monitors here in the UK and so I’m very tempted to go ahead and take advantage of this :).

Here’s the problem… I’m not sure whether to go for dual monitors, or one big one. I have a 22″ DELL at the moment, so it’s either get another 22″ and have duals, or get the 27″ and sell the 22″ (at least partially because different sized screens can look a little stupid beside one-another, but mainly because being a student…).

So.. anybody have any opinions? I suppose it’s mostly coding / writing that I’ll be doing…

Let me know!

Chris

Just a little humorous message that made me laugh today. I was updating my picture on Twitter (as some of you may have already noticed :)), and got the following error message:

Probably?

As it turns out; it was too large. It just made me laugh that they didn’t put the few lines of code in to check if the file was too big (the file finished uploading from what I could tell) before proceeding and replying with an ambiguous message.

I love twitter too much to have any complaints though.

Long live Twitter and all Twitterites,

Chris

Two words: Editorial & Accountability.

There are hundreds of ‘blogs’ out there, 99% of which report the exact same stories, sometimes with a slightly different twist, or humour added, but rarely is there any editorial added; a dialogue that transcends the facts and places the pieces together to make sense of the story in context.

I feel the urge too; to copy and paste an Engadget story, add that joke that you think makes it funnier, wittier, better, and then post it up. It’s easy & it’s fun, but it adds nothing (well little) to the sum total of information out there.

When I started to create this blog I thought that I would try to use the fact that I’ve spent a good deal of the past few years of my life both involved and deep in reading of the technology industry to create this editorial that I feel that technology so needs. I don’t know how well I’m doing; scanning the main page there’s a mixture of editorial pieces and ‘replogs’ (replicated blog posts).
